Access Awards Scheme

Access for the disabled is high on the agenda of this Group, which has the full support of the Borough Council and is the only Group which is recognised and approved by the Council to advise it on matter of disabled access.

The Ashford Access Group has introduced an Access Award to encourage shops, businesses and owners of other types of premises to open their buildings up to disabled people.

Gold AwardBronze, silver and gold awards will be given to premises which meet various standards, ranging from the provision of 'Disabled' car parking spaces, through to automatic doors and 'one to one' shopping assistants. The needs of the visually impaired and those suffering from hearing disorders are also taken into account. A Registered Charity, the Group's aim is to "improve access for disabled people in the Ashford Borough, to promote disability awareness and Access for All"

Ashford Access Group works closely with the Borough Council, with the Ashford Town Centre Partnership and other Ashford based voluntary organisations, some of whom are member organisations of the Group. The Council has lent its support to the current campaign.
